Nonprofit publisher’s California Standards edition aligns with the California Mathematics Framework; available to schools for the 2026–2027 school year.
Open Up Resources (OUR), a leading nonprofit curriculum publisher committed to producing high-quality K–12 open educational resources (OER), announced today that Open Up Resources K–8 Math – California Standards has been officially approved by the California Department of Education as an adoptable K–8 mathematics curriculum. Developed in full alignment with the California Mathematics Framework (CMF), the program will be available to California districts for the 2026–2027 school year.
The California Mathematics Framework, adopted by the State Board of Education in 2023, calls for mathematics instruction that emphasizes understanding, creativity, and collaboration over rote procedures. Open Up Resources’ California Standards was built to bring that vision to life in classrooms across the state.
Grounded in California’s Big Ideas, the curriculum uses engaging, problem-based lessons that build reasoning, understanding, and collaboration through purposeful discourse. Students explore multiple ways of thinking while developing strong, positive math identities.
“We’re honored to be recognized by the state of California as an approved provider,” said Jason Isaacs, CEO at Open Up Resources. “Open Up Resources K–8 Math – California Standards is designed to help every California student engage deeply with mathematics and see themselves as capable, curious problem-solvers. The state’s approval affirms that commitment and extends our mission to deliver high-quality, standards-aligned materials to every district—especially those historically underserved.”
Rooted in research, the curriculum includes:
- Equity in Action – grounded in inclusive practices that ensure every student can access and succeed with grade-level mathematics.
- Support for Diverse Learners – Scaffolds grounded in WIDA, UDL, and ELSF support multilingual learners, students with disabilities, and advanced learners.
- Relevant and Rigorous – California-aligned tasks that connect math to data, financial, and environmental literacy.
- Community Driven – more than a curriculum, a network of educators sharing strategies and leading change together.
Open Up Resources K–8 Math – California Standards builds on Open Up Resources’ nationally acclaimed portfolio of PreK–12 Math & ELA open educational resources, which have helped classrooms across the country.
