CommUNITY 2026: Power in Belonging

There’s a moment at every HIVE conference that stays with me long after the final session ends. It’s rarely tied to a slide or a perfectly crafted takeaway.

It’s the quiet conversation that begins with, “Can I be honest about what’s hard right now?” It’s the nod of recognition when someone names a shared challenge. It’s the feeling of being seen, understood, and valued without having to explain yourself.

That feeling is why CommUNITY continues to ground the HIVE Conference each year. And it’s why our 2026 theme, Power in Belonging, matters so deeply.

Why CommUNITY, every year

CommUNITY is not a trend or a slogan for us. It’s a commitment.

The intentional emphasis on UNITY reflects what we believe at Open Up Resources: meaningful change happens when people come together around shared purpose, trust, and care. But unity doesn’t exist without belonging, and belonging doesn’t happen by accident.

Each year at HIVE, CommUNITY shows up in new ways. In 2026, we’re naming what we’ve long known to be true: Belonging is Power.

Power in Belonging, especially now

Educators and leaders are navigating increasingly complex conditions—shifting expectations, political pressure, limited resources, and real fatigue. In moments like these, it’s easy to feel isolated or uncertain, even while doing important, meaningful work.

Belonging changes that.

Belonging gives people the confidence to speak honestly, to ask hard questions, and to lead with courage. It creates the conditions for growth—not through comfort or agreement, but through trust and shared responsibility.

That’s the power we’re centering in 2026.

What belonging makes possible

At HIVE, belonging isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about creating spaces where people feel safe enough to wrestle with the questions that matter most.

Belonging means:

  • Being challenged without being diminished
  • Being heard without having to fight for space
  • Being supported while doing bold, sometimes uncomfortable work

When people experience true belonging, they stay engaged. They take risks. They imagine more for students and communities. They lead differently.

The community we’re building—together

CommUNITY at HIVE brings together teachers, school and district leaders, researchers, and advocates who are deeply committed to students and to one another. It’s where relationships form across roles and geographies, and where collective wisdom takes shape.

HIVE has never been about a single voice or perspective. It’s about learning with and from one another—grounded in trust, honesty, and care.

Power in Belonging is a reminder that progress occurs when people take action.

Looking ahead to HIVE 2026

If you’ve ever left HIVE feeling more grounded, more connected, or more certain that you’re not doing this work alone, Power in Belonging is for you.

In 2026, we’ll gather again to strengthen our CommUNITY, to listen, reflect, challenge, and lead together. Not because belonging is easy, but because it is essential.

Because when people belong, they don’t just participate. They shape what’s possible.

Save the Date

We can’t wait to gather our CommUNITY again at HIVE 2026. Save the date and stay tuned for registration details, speaker announcements, and opportunities to engage with this year’s theme: Power in Belonging.

We hope you’ll join us and help us continue building the kind of community where belonging truly is power.
