What does it take to raise achievement in mathematics in ways that are rigorous, sustainable, and responsive to students?
This three-part webinar series explores practical shifts in classroom structures, mathematical language, and assessment that lead to stronger engagement, deeper understanding, and improved outcomes for all learners. Each session focuses on five high-leverage moves educators can implement immediately—regardless of curriculum or context.
Participants will leave with concrete strategies, planning tools, and facilitation techniques designed to elevate student thinking and increase access to grade-level mathematics. Throughout the series, we will reference examples from Humanizing Mathematics PreK–5 to illustrate how these shifts can be embedded into daily instruction, while keeping the focus squarely on instructional practice that works across settings.
- Session 1: Five Classroom Structures That Strengthen Engagement and Outcomes
Date & Time Mar 31, 2026 06:00 PM in Eastern Time (US and Canada)
Description: Strong outcomes begin with strong structures. In this session, we examine five classroom design shifts that create the conditions for sustained engagement, productive struggle, and meaningful collaboration in PreK–5 mathematics. Participants will explore practical routines and facilitation strategies that elevate student thinking, normalize revision, and position students as sense-makers. We will consider how instructional structures influence identity, participation, and achievement—and how small changes can lead to measurable gains in student outcomes. - Session 2: Five Language Moves That Improve Mathematical Understanding
Date & Time Apr 14, 2026 06:00 PM in Eastern Time (US and Canada)
Description: Mathematical language is not an add-on to instruction—it is central to understanding. This session focuses on five actionable language moves that strengthen reasoning, support access to grade-level content, and deepen conceptual understanding for all learners. Participants will learn how to plan for discourse, make academic language visible and usable, and design opportunities for explanation and justification that move beyond surface talk. We will also examine how language routines can expand access for multilingual learners while benefiting every student. - Session 3: Five Assessment Shifts That Increase Student Achievement
Date & Time: Apr 28, 2026 06:00 PM in Eastern Time (US and Canada)
Description: Assessment drives what students value and how they engage. In this session, we explore five shifts in assessment design and feedback that surface student thinking, inform instruction, and increase achievement. Participants will examine how to align assessment to conceptual understanding, create opportunities for revision and growth, and use evidence of student thinking to adjust instruction in real time. We will focus on practical tools that can be implemented immediately in classrooms and PLCs.
